ALMOST ANOTHER GOOD RUN

8/21/11- If you are a dirt racing fan and you have not been to Port Royal Raceway you need to go. What a great facility and a well run show. The track is a very fast 1/2 mile, plenty of nice stands, they ran three classes, and the show took only three hours. Kyle has competed on several fast tracks, Canandaigua, Rolling Wheels, Can Am, etc. but this is now one of his favorite. The speeds are very fast and with the banking in the turns the racing is very good.

Kyle had a flat tire in his heat race that religated him to a 10th place fininsh. Thus he started last in the B Main that transfered 6 to the feature. Kyle finished 7th... but... one car could not make it so that put Kyle in the show.

Kyle started 24th, kept plugging away and by lap 8 he was up to 16th place  with three more cars just in front of him for the taking. Being down on horsepower for this track, he was eventually going to run out of spots he could pick off. Well it didn't mater. Kyle had reported a vibration after the B main but the decision was made to go for it. The engine let go around lap 9 or 10 and that was that....

The 2010 season is now over. It is late August, the new engine is not finished so it is time to call it a season in the 410. Kyle may run a race or to more in the 360s but nothing is firm as yet... check back....

ANOTHER GOOD RUN

7/31/11- Last night Kyle ran at Woodhull Raceway in the 360/410 shootout. He started 7th in the heat race and did an excellent job finishing 3rd.  After the redraw Kyle was slated to start 6th in the feature. The feature was a good one with Kyle picking up a spot or two then racing hard to keep the position. The car and track were good, no major complaints. When all was said and done Kyle finished 6th. Please keep in mind this is NOT a track Kyle likes much at all.

Up next????  At this time the next race or races are undecided. Please check back for an update.

CLINTON COUNTY- DONE FOR THE SEASON

7/25/11-It was announce today by Clinton County Raceway that they will not be running any more special shows this season and will not be running the sprints any longer this year. This means the 360/410 shootout for this weekend is cancelled. The final show in August has ben cancelled as well.

The Woodhull 360/410 shootout for this Saturady night is still on. Kyle will be running this show.

With the announcement ending the CCR season it leaves Kyle third in points.... great but we wanted to race!

Stay tuned for other possilbe runs this season.

ANOTHER TOP FIVE FINISH!

7/16/11- It was a beautiful night for racing at Clinton County, finally. Kyle finished 3rd in his heat. After the draw for the feature Kyle started 4th. George Suprick drew the pole. By the completion of the first lat it was Kyle chasing George. This went on for several laps. By lap three they were lapping traffic. On lap four the cautions started and the didn't seem to stop all race. We would run one. two , or maybe four laps and a caution would come out. Kyle lost second on one of these restart laps but with a green white caution to end the race, ya knew trouble would/could happen. Kyle lost two spots on the last turn last lap. Kyle had to go low into turn three after fourth place got to his outside. Coming out of turn four he was pinned low with two cars to his outside. He ended up 5th.

None the less it was a great run. The car, driver, and team are now running in the top five going back to the end of last year. Now the next step is to win. There are a couple handing issues that still need to be resolved but I'm sure that will happen.

Schedule update... apparently there will be the 360/410 shootout at Clinton County on July 29th and at Woodhull on the 30th. I'm sure Kyle will be at both.

KYLE FINISHES 6TH AT ERIEZ

7/4/11- What a long night it was. We arrived at the track around 4PM, unloaded the car, and got it ready, taking about an hour. First up was hot laps after which we made a few changes to the car. They had to run a rained out sprint feature first. Since this was a rain-out from a few weeks ago and Kyle wasn't there he had to sit this one out... no big deal. Kyle and Jared drew the same heat race for the night with Jared starting 2nd and Kyle 7th, last. They took the track around 8PM for this. Jared won and Kyle worked his was to 3rd. Not back they both ended up in the redraw.

Jared started the feature in 5th and Kyle"can't draw a number" drew 8th, the farthest back he could draw. There was one caution on lap two which saw Kyle just miss wearing a car in turn three. After the restart in went green to the end. Kyle was able to pick up a couple spots and could probably gotten more if more laps were had. As the race wound down they were hitting lapped traffic and Kyle is very good at lapped traffic.... but that isn't the way it played out. Jared finished 2nd and Kyle 6th.... not bad. By the way.... the feature started at 12:30PM!

Up next... Kyle will be back in the Roan Racing 410 at Clinton County this Friday night 7/8 and the following Friday night as well 7/15.........

A RUN WITH ALL STAR SPRINTS

6/5/11- The evening started with Kyle drawing a high number for his time trials... the track was pretty well gone for his laps yet he was able to turn 20th fast of the 33 cars entered. This put him on the outside front row for his heat race. He finished 5 th in his heat which put him in the A main. The track was totally gone by the heats. After trying to keep the dust down with some water, after the B main and the dash.... the track was even worse for the feature.

Kyle and crew set the car up for him to run the top side since they knew everyone was going to be running low. Smart move but.... the dust. The dust was so bad that Kyle could not see the front wall as he came off turn four. So... after trying this a couple times he did what everyone else did... he ran low. Needless to say he went no where. Started 18th finished 20th.

When all is said and done he can say he ran with the All Star Sprint.

Next up Clinton County June 17th.

A VERY GOOD OPENING NIGHT!

Kyle Finishes Third!

5/7/11- Despite the wet spring and cooler weather the track was a dust bowl very early with some major ruts in turn four. Just the same opening night was finally here. The equipment was all updated, engine fresh, and the crew pumped considering the finish the team had to the 2011 season.

Kyle was up to the challenge finishing second in his heat race showing the car was good and the engine was strong.

The redraw for the 25 lap feature gave Kyle the sixth place starting spot. With in the first four laps he had the fourth spot and was working on third. After a restart or two he was now up to second but a strong car was coming in the form of last years track champion. A couple laps later with the help of the turn four ruts Kyle was relegated to third as the champ proceeded to go to the front. Kyle was all over the second place car by now but thought better of making a crazy move off turn four. The last nine laps were run without a caution and it was very dust to the point the drivers could not see very well. Kyle road out his position to bring home a great opening night third place finish.

A win is coming. Kyle put this car up front. The handling is there, the engine is strong, and with a few more small tweaks.... the victory will be there as well.

2010 SEASON
Another 4TH Place Finish!Out Front for 18 Laps
9/10- Kyle was back in action at Clinton County Raceway last night. The car was not good in the heat but he was able to get the outside pole for the feature. The crew tweaked the car as sent him to the line. It took a coupler laps but Kyle got the lead and set the pace. There were several cautions that managed to keep the cars on his tail and all over him... keeping him on his game. A couple things seemed to happen that allowed a couple cars under him on a late race restart.... apparently a rear brake pad broke apart and the right rear tire built up an extra three pounds with no air bleed off in the rim. Thus the car was loose and brakes questionable??? Kyle came home in fourth. It is a shame it is the end of the season. Everything is taking shape with the team, the car, and Kyle. The track made the announcement that this was the last regular show. Kyle will compete it a special non winners race on October 2nd.
Kyle Picks Up A Fourth Place Finish
The evening started with a poor draw for the heat race with Kyle starting 7 out of 9 cars in his race. He made a good move  or two on the start getting around a couple cars that were a little slow on the start. He finished 4th which put him in the redraw for the feature. Kyle lead the field to the green from the pole. As Kyle came around turns three and four George Suprick was way up high from his 4th place spot with a bunch of momentum to take the top spot. In the ensuing lap Kyle was in a great battle for second which he lost going through the rough track in three and four. This is the same spot he lost third. He could run with the second and third place cars but just could not get back by as both drivers made there cars very wide and did a great job of keeping Kyle behind them. The team is very happy with the fourth place finish... the best of the season... You just new the good finishes were about to some. Up next.... Clinton County  Sept. 10. Hard to believe there are only three races left...

Kyle Gets a Top TenFinishes 9th
8/6/10- Clinton County- After a disappointing heat race Kyle started the feature in 16th. It was one of the longest and strangest races in a long time. Filled with cautions and cars going pit side, Kyle was up to 7th when he too had to come into the pits with no brakes. Thinking his race was over he took his helmet off and was ready to get out of the car as he heard them go back to green, but... caution so no laps in. At this time the crew realized Kyles brake problem was only a loose fitting. As this was tightened Kyle put his helment back on and hit the track. A few laps later the race was over and Kyle wasa 9th.....
Shootout Part 2- Woodhull
Kyle Win's B Main
7/31- Woodhull NY- Part 2 of the Shoot Out took place last night at Woodhull NY, a very different type of track with it's tight 38% banking and long straight aways. Kyle ran this track with ESS in 2000 when he was 15 and if memory serves correctly the track won with Kyle spinning out twice. This trip would prove different. With 31 cars in the pits, Kyle still managed to start toward the back 8th in the first heat. He did move up two spots which transferred him to the B Main outside pole. The B Main saw Kyle win handedly. This is the first checkered flay in this car, be it a B Main.Kyle started the feature on the inside of the tenth row in19th. When the checkers fell he came home in 13th with a good solid run.Cassie was in the pits helping her brother doing the things she did for years... timing laps, getting the lineups, and checking the hiems and car prior to racing. Good to have her back!
Clinton County 360/410 Shoot Out
7/20- The night started with Kyle drawing a 47 out of 50, which put him at the very tail of his heat race. Going into the heat race the car was very questionable acting very evil. He spun once and just followed at the back. Once pit side Kyle determine the left front torsion bar had gone bad thus allowing the left front to drop, hitting the ground when he entered a turn. Needless to say this totally upset the car. B Main was next where Kyle finished 5th from further back but was two spots out of a transfer spot. Car count was 44 car for 24 spots.Up next Woodhull tonight... part two of the shoot out...
Clinton County 7/19
Rain out???? Not sure why but races were called for rain mid afternoon. It appears the weather was fine from 3PM thru the evening and into today with no chance of rain from7Pm on. Not sure if they had rain during the day but from what weather.com said... not much of anything??? Up next... 7/30 at Clinton County a 410/360 joint event ... that should be fun with 50 -60 cars in the field....
7/9 Clinton County
Rain wins! It did not look good at all upon arrival at the track... very dark skies, flood warnings in the area, and no people in the stands, who could blame them? The evening progressed as though the weather was clear and sunny. Kyle got hot laps in then.... rain, rain, and more rain. So... car is completely dirty, fire suit is completely dirty and crew all had fun playing in the mud.... Next week we will try it again.
 LITTLE  VALLEY
Kyle was back in a 360 sprint last night at Little Valley driving the back up car for Zambardi's. It was kind of strange watching two cars looking the same racing on the track at the same time. Jarad started 6th in the first heat and finished 2nd while Kyle started 6th in the second heat and finished third. Jarad started the feature 4th with Kyle right behind him on the starting grid in 6th. On the start of the race three cars mid pack got together causing a red flag situation and a delay of a good half hour. Once underway not much on anyone moved anywhere, the long straight aways just take horse power once you get through the turns. Kyle could get through the turns nicely with the car handling great but just could not catch the cars in front of him. Once the race was restarted it went caution free. Jarad was able to pick up one spot finishing 3rd and Kyle finished where he started in 6th. Next up is Clinton County this coming Friday night back in the seat of the 410.
  A Good Night????
The night started with Kyle "can't draw a number" starting last in his heat, however the officials were not happy with how long it took the field to get on the track and lined them up but the order they arrived on the track. This put Kyle up to 6th instead of 10th.... anyway he finished 3rd. Feature time... Kyle started 3rd but dropped to 6th in the first couple laps. The track was very rough and you really had to choose your lines or the ruts would get the best of you. Kyle settled in and started to work his was back to the front. At the half way mark he was up to 3rd with 2nd in sight, realling him in as the leaders worked lapped traffic. As this was going on the distance between Kyle and 4th place was growing. The car was working well, Kyle was running good lines, and he was moving forward. Well..... Kyle finally made a move under 2nd place going into turn three. The driver gave Kyle the line as they were side by side between three and four. 2nd place hit one of those ruts as did Kyle, the touched side to side, not doing any damage but Kyle had all four wheels 1-2 feet in the air. This is wen you hold your breath... the car landed on all four, stalled, and the caution came out. To the back we go... to the front we go... ended up 10 or 11th in a five lap dash.... The team IS there. The finishes are coming as you can see the improvements working... Back in action next Friday night....
 Mechanical Failures Hi Lite Night
New brakes are on the car and working great. Kyle is much more comfortable and can now drive the car like he can with the new Brakeman brake system just installed. In the heat race he was reeling in the leader when he felt an engine problem and shut it down. Pit side the crew found a broken rocker arm. Next u was the B main where Kyle was able to qualify for the feature. Feature time found Kyle bringing up the rear starting in 24th position. This has never been a real problem for him but when the first caution came out on lap 2 the top wing rear support failed causing the wing to fall down in the back. So pit side once again making it an evening. This teamis very close to success. The car is to Kyle's liking and the team works well together talking with Kyle on set up at every step. Off for two weeks then look out....
SUCCESS IS ON THE HORIZON
5/15/10- It was a nice night for racing even though it had been a strange day for storms around the track. The track never did get hit by a storm. Kyle lead five laps of his heat race finishing 2nd. You could see he changed his line into the turn just prior to dropping to second. Kyle said he could not set the car as he needed due to brake concerns and not being able to slow the car down. Feature time, Kyle started 5th. It took only a couple laps to go to 3rd keeping the top two spots well in hand. As the race wore on a couple cars got by Kyle putting him back to 5th. At this point Kyle was changing his line once again and several of us could see he had an issue. Not to give in he worked his way back to second when the 3rd place car went off the back straightaway of the track bringing out a caution. On the ensuing restart Kyle took third and looked to have it well in hand with 2 laps to go. Wellllll.... now the rest of the story.... the announcer said there were two laps left, Kyle heard on his radio two laps left but they ran 2 white flag laps??? anyway three more laps, right or wrong. On the very last lap the 4th place driver dove in under Kyle going into turn one taking away Kyle line and practice of setting the car. Coming out of turn two Kyle went low on him taking the spot back, hammered the throttle, the car pulled a wheelie, taking away his steering, and he was reacquainted with the implement tire in the turn. Night over...We need to resolve the brake issue. The problem has come to light because Kyle is driving so hard into the turns. He needs to slow down quick, fast, and consistently. Once he is comfortable with the car greater success is on the way. The handling of the car is now there to Kyle's liking and he is not lacking on horse power. So.... one last piece.
 MAKING PROGRESS
4/30- Clinton County Raceway- Kyle started his heat race in 10th, last place in the line up. He had to bring the car in do to overheating. That problem was somewhat correct for the B Main. Several adjustments were made for the B Main including bars, shocks, tires, stagger.... all in an effort o give Kyle a car he had to drive from the last spot in the B Main to at least 5th to qualify for the A Main. Well it worked. Kyle drove up as high as 3rd but a restart on a caution had him move back o 5th for the restart. A Main time... starting dead last does have it's advantages... Kyle let the group settle down and after a couple laps he started his drive forward. Just before halfway he was up to 13 or 14. He got tagged in turn two and spun (drive apologized after the race) but at the same time a red flag came out. Three or four laps earlier he noticed a skip in the engine... probably a rocker arm. Kyle did the smart thing and brought the car into the pits. The good news is the car worked great and without the engine issue he would have had a top ten. Looking for better runs in the weeks to come. The team know knows what works for Kyle and.... he LOVES driving a 410.
Kyle and Team Gel Nicely
Kyle made his first run last night in Chuck Roan's 410 at Clinton County Raceway. The team was great working with Kyle on the setup. The track dusted very early in the evening making setup very difficult. The guys got the car much better and Kyle was able to run upfront. He finished 4th in his heat race and was running 4th mid way through the feature when he got a little to close to an implement tire while putting a car a lap down. The evening was finished with a couple bent radius rods and a driver very upset with himself. The team was happy with the showing and everyone is looking forward to next week. Thanks Chuck for the opportunity and thanks to the team for their support.A link to Chuck's website will be posted later this weekend. You will be able to see the videos from last night. The Clinton County schedule will be posted on the site as well.(and a big Thanks Steve.... you know who you are...
) KYLE READY TO RACE FRIDAY NIGHT
Kyle is ready to go for this Friday night at Clinton County. The weather looks good so far. The car is ready and the team is excited about the run. This is a good test to see how everything works from the car, to the team, to Kyle. Here's hoping for the best......
Kyle to Pilot 410 at Clinton County
At this point in time an agreement has been reached that will have Kyle in the seat of the Chuck Roan 22 at Clinton County Raceway  for opening night on April 23rd. Kyle met with the team this past Saturday and all agreed to take in one race at a time and see how things work out. Like any other team funding is a key to running an entire season. Please check back as the site will be updated as soon as the current sponsors are announced and as the races unfold.

McKean County Night Two

Wayland NY- Racing was to start at 5 but because of a couple showers it didn't start until 7:30 or so. Kyle started his heat in 7th and finished 4th. For the feature he started on the outside poll but on lap 2 the new part that replaced the part from the night before broke. This is unbelievable. It is a welded part and the welds broke. Makes me wonder about their welding qualifications and standards. We were told " ya, I've seen those break." Well they should NOT break especially at the weld. If welded properly the weld will not break but the metal around it might.

Enough said. I guess a fitting end to an up and down season that was by far more positive then not. What's up for next year? We are staying with this car and class. McKean is in question, maybe the old Freeom track will open, we can always run the tour..... time will tell.

McKean County Night One

Wayland NY- With the threat of rain all night it actually ended up being a good night for racing... weather wise anyway. There was a slight mist in the air several times but nothing dumped.

This was another Fastrak Northeast Regional race. Kyle started last in the 2nd heat, 8th. There were 33 cars present. Kyle had a good heat run going to third in a very strong field of cars in his heat, working on 2nd at the finish. We decided to not touch the setup since the track conditions looked to remain the same all night.

Kyle went up for the redraw but no one was there. When the finally did the draw Kyle wasn't there so he got the number left... 3rd. Very good starting spot. Maybe this is the way to redraw.... don't.  On the first lap of the race one of the tie rod brackets broke on the  left upper ball joint of the car. We have no idea as to why. Kyle did not get hit nor did the piece show signs of fatigue. As the say.. "stuff happens". Well I guess.

One more time we knew we had a great car and had something for the field. The lap times in the heat were the best of the field. I guess we will have to wait and see. Tonight is not looking good. The weather for McKean is calling for 50% chance of rain through tomorrow night. We will decide what to do later this AM.

     Black Rock Cancelled for Us

Wayland NY 8/30- The show we were hoping to run at Black Rock has been cancelled. I spoke with Dean Hoag the track owner and as he explained it the BRP Series has a fit. Dean runs the BRP cars on a weekly basis and the BRP series said that their cars will NOT run if the Crates are even at the track.
The BRP cars run an engine that cost $10,000 to 20,000 to run up front. These engines to be rebuilt every year at a cost of $3000-5000. Our engines cost $3500-5500 and come sealed from GM. Our engines not not need to be rebuilt every year. In fact last winter I spend $110. total on new valve springs. We run a regular Late Model chassis. The BRP cars take a regular Late Model chassis, cut the front clip off and weld on a regular 2x4 tubed front end. They also must run a 9" rear end. Both of these cost to install and really cost to maintain.
I have timed both the BRP car and the Crates at the same tracks. I have found the lap times to be so close that you can't tell the difference. So... I don't understand why anyone would want to run a BRP car??? There purse is the same or less then the Crates as well. If some one can explain please send an e mail......

 Regular Season Ends

Wayland NY 8/24- Last night was the end to the regular season at McKean County Raceway. One has to wonder if it was the last race at the track excluding the September 26,27 big event. The talk since mid season is that money was gone and they might not open next year. Time will tell.
Kyle won his qualifier in convincing fashion. The feature line up was determined by the point standings meaning Kyle was starting third. On the opening laps Blair who was on the poll and Kyle took off from the field though the third place car was not far behind. As the laps continued the gap between Kyle and third grew. Kyle's time were about the same as Blair's but not any better. On lap 15 or so they started getting into lapped traffic. This was Kyle's chance to close that gap. The both made it through the first couple cars OK. Then came the number 24 car who was all over the track and could not hold a line. Kyle tried the low side but couldn't do it since the 24 shot down on Kyle pushing him almost into the in field. So Kyle set him up to pass him on the high side going into turns one and two. Between these turns the 24 drove up into Kyle's drivers side pushing the panel in and sending Kyle around. This was on lap 19 of 25. So back to the rear went Kyle, actually back to 14th. In the closing laps Kyle headed toward the front finishing 7th.
This is not the finish we were looking for. When in comes to points, it probably dropped Kyle from 2nd to 4 or 5. I didn't do the math but if Kyle had been able to win he would have been close to the point title but I'm not sure and I guess at this point it doesn't mater. Now my commentary..... lap traffic is a part of racing that is a given. I can recall many races where Kyle was taken out by lapped cars. A couple that come to mind... Rolling Wheels, Patriot race, lap 10 of 20, Kyle was leading by a straightaway, putting a lap on the 10th place car when the 9th place car spun out collecting Kyle. Another one was coming to the checkered flag in a micro sprint, leading the race and a lapped car pushes up into Kyle's line blocking him off turn four. He ended up second that night. Then there was the time in karts at Syracuse that on the last lap another kart cut down on Kyle in turn three. Kyle ended up flipping and as he lay on the ground he could look up at the checkered flap waving.
There has also been times that the lapped cars have helped. Like I said they are a part of racing. My only wish is that drivers would think. If you are being given the move over flag then do it. Hold a line and let the lead cars go by. Seems simple and it is called respect for others... people and equipment.
Updates to follow in the next few days. Next and last race of the year will be the September Fastrak Regional race at McKean. Please note the October race at Black Rock will not happen. Read about it later.

       Makup- 2nd; Regular 8th

Wayland NY 8/17- What a long day it was, not just the racing but the travel. We left Wayland around 11:30 AM and we arrived back in Wayland this morning around 3:30. It brought back memories of sprint car touring.
We fought a tight condition all night. In hot laps Kyle was fast but the track was smooth. During the first feature the track developed ruts which in turn made the car tight when it was going through them. Well this condition continued to get worse throughout the night. As Kyle said later "we were one step behind the changes." That about sums it up. Even though 2nd is something to feel good about we knew we could have done better.
In the regular show Kyle finished second in the heat. He started 4th in the feature but was turned on a lap 9 restart in turn two. If Our car was working a little better this might not have happen because he could have pulled away from them. Anyway... to the back of the full field of car. The drive was on to get back to the front. We saw some real racing out of Kyle at that point passing cars on the high side or low even with a car that wasn't what it should have been. Kyle crossed the line in 8th. I guess that when you get a top ten finish on your worse night things aren't to bad.
Up next... season finals at McKean this Saturday night. Hardly seems possible.

A 6th Place Finish
Wayland NY8/1- Kyle came home with a sixth place finish last night which wasn't bad considering where he started. The original start had Kyle11th, but (you knew there was going to be a but), on the start coming out of four there were several cars checking up including Kyle. Unfortunately the car behind Kyle didn't and Kyle ended up spun around... so to the back he went restarting in 19th. Coming from19th to 6th was a great job. The track was anything but good since the Limited Late Models were there and the extra horsepower tore up the track. We will take the spot and move on.
Next up is Mercer for the rain-out from a few weeks ago. We hope to take in the double features on the 16th at Mercer then go to Tri City on Sunday night before heading home.
(I had Kyle 5th across the line but after 3 days the offical posing is out and they show Kyle 6th)
A Night to Forget
Wayland NY-7/20- The toughest part about the high of winning is that it does end and a low sets in. The low of our late model racing was last night. Kyle started his heat race in third. On the very first lap the on the back straight away the 14 car appeared to loss control or something and literally drove down across the right front of our car... on the straight away no less. I do have  an in car video of it so there is no doubt about the incident. The entire right front suspension was damaged. We had to replace the lower control arm, tie rod, and spindle. Thanks very much to Bob Close for getting the parts for us. I have to say a very big thank you to John Lacki as well. John is the best. John and Kyle we under the car putting it back together as the feature was being called up. John was just not going without Kyle and that is all there was to it. As John got in his car he made sure Kyle was getting in his. John is why I've always said that I've met some of the nicest people at the tracks. John..... thank you very, very much. Thank you crew guy as well since I didn't catch his name. Tom Taber needs a big thank you as well. Tom was leaving for vacation after the race.... I hope he was able to find a shower to get the dirt off. Thanks Tom.
Kyle was able to start the feature from the back and worked his was into the top ten. On a lap 8 -10 restart he took the high side into turn 1 to get past a few cars that had been holding him up. Apparently a chuck of debre got up into the fan belt which runs the power-steering as well as the water pump, knocking it off.  A lap later Kyle was pit side with an over heating car. Like he said "I can drive it without the power-steering but I couldn't do anything with the overheating."
So... we have a few weeks to regroup, make fixes, and get ready for Mercer on August 16. A few weeks ago I picked up a small camera to put in the car. Finally figured out how to work it. Now I need to figure out how to get the clips onto the site.... next....

What a Week It Has Been

Wayland NY-7/13- It rain on and off all night Saturday night and we made the decision to drive home Sunday. We drove in the rain most of the way. It this point I'm not sure if Tri City ran or not. The win at Dog Hollow was great! Kyle had never seen the track and his first laps on it were in his heat race... no hot laps. He finished second. Not bad for the first time. By lap 3 or 4 of the feature it was clear to me that Kyle had the place figured out and he went on to prove it by winning driving away.
Mercer was a track Kyle ran a sprinter on but never a late model. After hot laps we made some adjustments to the car. He won his heat but had another car all over him so we needed to made more adjustments. Then it rained. So.... The make up feature is scheduled for August 16. I guess we will go back running double features at Mercer then stay over and try Tri City once again.
Up next.... McKean this Saturday night for a regular show.

Rain a factor Again?!!

Wayland NY-7/12- Rain played a part in tonight's events with Kyle only being able to race his heat. Kyle won the heat after starting on the outside pole and was having to wait out a rain shower before the feature when they called the nights events. Tomorrow could also be in jeopardy with thunderstorms as the forecast. Stay tuned for more news and a full update of the weekend events.

Kyle wins at Dog Hollow!!!!

Wayland NY-7/12- Kyle and crew got their first look at the track when racing the heat. Kyle started fourth and finished second in the heat after never having seen the track let alone race it before. Kyle drew fourth in the feature and took a comanding lead a handful of laps into an 18-lap feature to win. Tonight- Saturday night Kyle and family will be at Mercer Raceway Park and on Sunday to Tri-City.

Kyle Wins Fastrak Regional!!!

Wayland NY-7/6- One had to know it was coming but when. Kyle pulled off the win in Saturday night's Fastrak Regional race at McKean County. The car and driver worked flawlessly. In the heat Kyle drove from 6th to second and showed he was the one to beat on this night.
The feature found Kyle on the outside pole. From the drop of the green, Kyle was in control of this event. There were a bunch of cautions on lap three and on every restart Kyle was able to pull Dick Barton last weeks winner. A little later he would have to do the same with the number 49. Once he hit lapped traffic Kyle had a good straight away lead on the field. Once again there were several cautions with 4 laps to go before flagger Tony VanPelt ordered a single file restart. That was all she wrote. Kyle checked out toward the checked flag.
We can't begin to thank Tom Taber for his help, effort, and undying support of Kyle. They are teacher and student, both doing very well at their part. Great job guys....

Local 85 Rejoins Kyle

Wayland NY- We are very pleased to be able to announce that Carpenters Local 85 out of Rochester has rejoin Drum Motorsports. Kyle works for RW Dake out of this local. Please feel free to check out their web site by clicking the link on the links page. Welcome aboard!

2nd.... Almost a Win!

Wayland NY- 6/27-We went into this season feeling very good about our chances after the schooling and changes we made to the car. Thursday night it all proved to be correct. Kyle started his heat race last in the 9th spot and finished 2nd in hot pursuit of Lacki who won. As they say "ran out of laps".
For the feature Kyle was lucky enough to draw the pole. This is good but Dick Batron pulled the outside pull. Dick Barton has raced late models for years and has won many big dollar shows. With that saide Kyle knew he was going to have to run a mistake free race even to have a chance.
The two drives set off side by side with Barton taking the lead to complete lap 1. Kyle did the smart thing and tucked in behind him while the two set sail on the field. By lap 10 the pair had a good straightaway lead on third and were into lapped traffic. Kyle kept pace nicely closing the 4-5 car length gap ever so slightly only to see Barton gain it back. By about lap 15 the one and only caution came out and took away the half track lead the guys had built up. On the restart it was the Dick and Kyle show again with third place Blair very close. As the laps wound down it was clear Kyle was catching Barton. As the took the white flag Kyle was there. Remember it is one thing to catch and another to pass. Going down the back straightaway the two were side by side each running their preferred line. As the came out of turn four for the checkered flag it was a drag race with Barton winning by a nose.
This was one of the best dirt races I've ever seen, and I've seen a bunch. If you want to see some exciting races you need to watch these crate late models. Remember the engines are sealed and the same so the speed is gained by car setup and the driver. It has nothing to do with the amount of money you can spend. Great racing!!!
Next up McKean July 5th for a Fastrak Regional race. Then we are looking at doing the three nights at Dog Hollow, Mercer, and Tri City the weekend of the 11th.

Updates....

Wayland NY- As the world turns... this season is very reminiscent of last year. First we have all the rain and second the track changes and shortens the schedule. In appears the McKean is in trouble. It's to bad. The guys that run the place are great guys but the weather the past two years has not helped, the economy hasn't help much either. The crowds are down which means the income is down. There are many Monday morning quarterbacks who I don't think understand that running a track is a business. If you're not making money then things need to change. Well anyway I hope the track stays open. Best of luck guys.
Bad to our problem... Per the McKean schedule we have four more races plus the year end Fastrak event in late September. IF all shows are ran, weather permitting of course, it means we will have raced 7, thats right 7 races this season... Kyle and I can't handle it..... so there is a plan....it goes like this. We will head to Dog Hollow to run their Friday night show, then over to Mercer for the Saturday night show, then on to Tri City for their Sunday night show. We can pick our weekends and just go race... weather permitting of course. This might give us our fix. Touring is not new to us but it was nice not having to do it...... maybe. It has always been exciting going to and running different tracks.
Please watch for our new dates. The new McKean dates are posted. Next up this coming Thursday night at McKean... right now 30 percent chance on rain......

Rain Again!

Wayland NY- I've lost count! Seven I think! This is way beyond ridiculous at this point. It's mid June and we've raced twice. The weather just has not cooperated at all this year or for that mater last year.  Up next... next Saturday.... we think.

On another note. The race at Eldora... I finally got the details and they aren't great. What was two nights of racing is now one. And to make mater worse the entry fee is $150. We never paid entry fees until we came to late models. The regionals charge $75. and apparently the national events are $150. Let's do some math... fuel for two trucks out and back $1000, pit fees $120, entry fee $150. Camping etc $200. Total... $1470. If we make the feature we will earn a minimum of $250. Feels like we are back in sprints were it cost at least $650 per show for us to participate. Didn't mean to get on the money kick but the economy is in very poor condition at this time.....Needless to say we are not sure if we are going to Eldora.

Kyle Finishes a Strong Third!

Wayland NY- The track was great, the best we've ever seen, and the car and driver worked great. Kyle finished 2nd in his heat race which put him in the redraw for the feature. He actually drew a good number 6. Starting 6th Kyle found himself back to 8th in the first few laps. Not getting rattled, he started picking his was to the front using the top side very efficiently as well as the low side when needed. Before long Kyle found himself in 4th. As the top four pulled away they also ran into lapped traffic. The leader ended up tangling with a lapped car which allowed John Lacki running second, Dick Barton running third, and Kyle to all get by. As Lacki and Barton fought for the lead Kyle closed right up behind them just waiting to see who was going to pass who. As it ended neither passed. Coming across the line winning was Barton on the low side with Lacki on top and Kyle was right behind Barton. You could have thrown a blanket over the three. You could not have ask for a better finish unless Kyle had won....
We are very pleased with the start of this season, as later as it has been. The car is working very well due to the changes we made this winter. Kyle is able to drive the car knowing how it will respond. Kyle has also learned how to drive the car since it is much differnet then the open wheeled sprints he drove for 10 years.
Up next, McKean on the 14. Pray for no rain....

And the Rains Came... Part 6

Wayland NY- Wait a minute..... part 6? Yup.... this time we got to the track, unloaded the car in the sunshine, and actually did a few minor things t the car. Then the sky's got black and boy did it rain. The track was probably only a few minutes from being ready and it would have been a good fast track. The rain came in sheets so heavy you couldn't see ten feet. We stayed in the trailer thinking it was going to blow over, that's how bad it was. Ten minutes from the track the roads were dry.
Next up.... Thursday night. What does the weather look like?

Opening Night at McKean County... Finally!

Wayland NY- It didn't rain! It was cool, well OK cold, in the low 40's by evenings end. Opening night ended up being a Fastrak Regional race attracting a tough field of 32 cars. Track conditions were very good and as we learned the track actually got tighter as the night progressed. (make a note... needed to account for this).

Track conditions were very good and as we learned the track actually got tighter as the night progressed. (make a note... needed to account for this).
Kyle started the third heat from the third spot but immediately went to the front over taking the pole sitter on the back straight away. As Kyle prepared to set sail the person he passed rammed Kyle left rear quarter panel pushing it way up and in and caused Kyle to spin out. This earned this driver a black flag and he would have to join Kyle at the back of the pack. Restarting 9th Kyle wasted no time in getting back to the third spot actually passing 6 cars in turns 1 and 2 on the first lap. A lap later the caution came out once again. On this restart another driver pulled a bonehead move and pulled along the inside of Kyle on the restart causing Kyle to be the middle of a three wide. The officials let it go but move the guy back two spots at the end. It is unfortunate since this driver did a great job of holding Kyle up. Not wanting to take any chances Kyle rode it out knowing he was in the redraw.
Kyle "can't draw a number" Drum drew a 10 out of 12. So... he started the feature in 10th place. The car worked good for the first few laps as Kyle moved up to 6th only to drop two spots by the end of the race finishing 8th. There was one caution on lap two then green the entire time.
Kyle was and is very happy with the car. The track got tighter and we didn't adjust accordingly. It appears the work we did this past winter was correct. Next up.... Saturday night the 31st at McKean.

And the Rains Came... Part 5

Wayland NY- Rained out once again. This is way beyond a wild dream. Here it is late May and we still have not race as yet. It feels more like winter yesterday and today then it did in mid January. Hoping for a nice night Saturday. Saturday is a regional race which means there will be a bunch or cars but we will take them all on..... yet want to get this season started. Please stay tuned for schedule updates. McKean County has said they will make up races.

And the Rains Came... Part 4

Wayland NY- Rained out again this week 5/16. This is getting very old..... McKean has scheduled a race for this coming Thursday night. We run Saturday as well. So.... Thursday then Saturday nights. It will be fun and great. If it doesn't rain. At this time the weather looks OK for next weekend. Time will tell....

   Opening Night This Friday Night
           Maybe... calling for rain

Wayland NY- McKean County will once again try to hold opening night this Friday night. At this time they are calling for 60% chance of rain with the heaviest at 70% in the afternoon. I would not bet on opening night but I sure hope I'm wrong.

And the Rains Came... Part 3

Wayland NY- Rained out again this week 5/8. This is getting ridiculous. We aren't scheduled to race again until May 24th and that is a Regional race, a tough way to start a season. McKean officials are trying to work out some rain dates. We will see how it goes. Please stay tuned.

And the Rains Came... Part 2

Wayland NY- Rained out again this week 5/3. There will be a Thursday night race 5/8 to try to make up one of these races. I haven't checked the weather for the week but right now my moneys is saying rain Thursday..... anyway please stay tuned. We will get good weather sooner or later.

  And the Rains Came...

Wayland NY- Wait....  rains... that was last year. No, this year as well. We got as far as Cuba NY and drove into the rain. We called the track and were told "cancelled due to rains". Haven't heard that in a few months. Well, we can't control the weather but we can sure talk about it.

The only good thing about a rain out is we have the week off from washing the car as well as doing the repairs and maintenance. Let's hope for a nice Saturday next weekend so we can get the season started.

Update; 4/20/08      Testing Went Well

Wayland NY- We were at McKean County yesterday for their test and tune session. The changes we make this past winter appear to have paid off. The car handled much better for Kyle and was much more drivable. Speeds were OK for the track conditions. We weren't there to worry about speed but handling on entry, through the turn, and off.
This week we will go through the car completely and make any correction we need to make. It looks like the season is now upon us.... Opening night next Saturday....

Update; 3/23/08    Happy Easter!

Wayland NY- This has to be the earliest Easter ever? The weather is sunny but the air is cold. Hard to be thinking about racing but we are. The car is lacking just a few items that will be finalized this week. Kyle needs to finalize the graphics but he has been working on other cars evenings.
We have also been getting the new trailer ready, painting, etc. I will be wiring it this week and plumbing the air. Then we need to install the cabinets and racks. We are getting close on everything.

         Til next week.....

2008 Schedule Taking Shape

Wayland NY- The Drum Motorsports schedule for the upcoming season is starting to take shape. McKean County has posted their races. We intend to run them all.
It was announced a couple weeks ago that Fastrak was going to have a race at the famed Eldora Speedway now owned by Tony Stewart. Kyle has always wanted to run Eldora so we are going to make the trip. The racing is scheduled for two nights August 8 and 9. It should be a lot of fun and hopefully some good memories.
We haven't heard any updates on Freedom Raceway but hopefully the track will be open. We need a Friday night track to run at. Maybe Black Rock will do something with the late models. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Update; 3/1/08

Wayland NY- It has been a busy week for Kyle. For the past year Kyle has been trying to buy a house. In October he became engaged to Natosha Zimbardi. Yesterday they closed on their house. Today the work started. They bought a very nice place. The shop has three full bays with  a lift and another cold bay attached . Yea, the house is nice too. Actually the business started on Wednesday evening when Kyle went to Close Racing to pick up the car after work.

With the car back we can now get it finished. Everything is now here to get things finished. We'll get the engine set in, do the final set up on everything and then fire it for the first time this year. No big hurry right? We still have 7 weeks....

Kyle and Simpson again in 2008!

We are very pleased to announce that Kyle will once again be on the Simpson Race Products Driver Support Program. Simpson selects a very limited number of drivers to support through their program. Kyle was first on the program in 2003 and has been on it ever since. We use nothing but Simpson seat belts, helmets, and Kyle wears a Simpson fire suit as well. Nothing but the best.....

T & J Auto Parts on Board for 2008

We are very pleased to announce that T & J Auto Parts of Wayland NY will be a part of our family once again in 2008. T & J has helped Kyle for many years being the longest running partnership. Thanks for the continual support!
